Procedures to gain Nepali citizenship for a child whose father is unknown.
For a Nepali citizen woman’s child (if the father’s identity and location are unknown or cannot be determined):
- Submit an application together with a reference letter from the relevant ward office of the municipality.
- Provide the mother’s Nepalese citizenship certificate and, if appropriate, her death certificate.
- Include the applicant’s birth and education certificates.
- Present a documented relationship certificate for the mother and child, which includes a photo.
- Provide an immigration certificate for individuals who have relocated to the area, as well as the permanent resident house owner in Lalpurja, or at the very least a recommendation letter for permanent residence.
- Include the mother and marriage registration certificate, as well as additional documents that detail
- Make a self-declaration confirming Nepali origin and that the father is a Nepali citizen.
- Obtain a form from the appropriate ward level office.

- Provide police and on-site investigative reports, as well as any other papers that may be necessary.
For a Nepali Woman and Child Married to a Foreign National Man
Procedures for obtaining citizenship for a Nepali lady and child who are married to a foreign national
- Submit an application along with a reference letter from the municipality’s ward offices.
- Include the mother’s Nepalese citizenship certificate and, if applicable, the death certificate.
- Attach the applicant’s birth certificate and education certificate.
- Present a confirmed relationship certificate for the mother and child, including a photo.
- For individuals who have relocated to the area, provide an immigration certificate and, if appropriate, the permanent resident house owner and Lalpurja, or at least a recommendation letter for permanent residence.
- Include the mother’s and marriage registration certificates, as well as any documents identifying family members.
- Make a self-declaration in accordance with Schedule 7 (a).
- Get a form from the appropriate ward-level office.
- Provide police and on-site investigative reports, as well as any other papers that may be necessary.
- After receiving the application and receipt, the Chief District Officer may discuss with the relevant chief of the metropolitan city or municipality if necessary.
